Departmen of History was established in 1998. İt was not accepted to department student from 1998 to 1999. History department began to accept student in 1999-2000 instruction-teaching terms

The Bachelor's Degree in History ( first cycle in History) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum

Specific Admission Requirements
According to the data of 2020, students must get at least 278,99888 points from the university exam in order to register for our department.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council. Also successful vocational school graduates to continue their educaiton to obtain Bachelor’s degrees if they are successful in the selection and the placement examination (DGS, i.e. vertical transfer examination) are admitted. The courses to be taken by these students are determined by the relevant department, on the basis of courses they have completed in the programs from which they have graduated. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Ondokuz Mayıs University and hence of the Department is not an exception to this. However, exams of exemption are organised at the start of each year at the University for the courses of English and German Languages. The students who have completed the proficiencies for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To successfully complete all the courses available in the program (130/142 national credits and 240 ECTS) and to have a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 is the required qualification requirement for graduation.
Profile of The Programme
History department is carrying out an education program in order to train historians. On our course programs, along with compulsory courses, there are selective courses as well in order to give students the chance of selecting courses suitable for the fields in which he/she wants to get specialized. Besides, among our objectives is provide qualified staff for all service areas in relevant fields or communication. These are public utility, local and regional administration, personnel management, journalism, international organizations, tourism, administration and evaluation of cultural heritage, archives, museums, libraries and lateral branches of these.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates, who have pedagogic formation and obtain sufficient score in KPSS (Civil Servant Election Exam), can be assigned history teacher by the Ministry of the National Education. Besides, there are employment opportunity in public utility, local and regional administration, personnel management, journalism, international organizations, tourism, administration and evaluation of cultural heritage, archives, museums, libraries and lateral branches of these.
Access to Further Studies
The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
In addition to a midterm and a final exam in our department, according to the feature of the lesson, two methods such as quiz, laboratory, project, homework and field work determined by the teacher are selected and applied. The average of the (whichever was done in addition) midterm / final exams is taken with the points to be taken from these selected methods. The success assessment has an effect on the grade of 40% in the midterm, 60% in the final exam.

Students who have successfully completed all compulsory courses and have completed 130/142 national credits and 240 ECTS can graduate.

Facilities
In our department we presently have 7 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant Professors, 2 Doctor Research Asistants and 4 Research Asistants. All of our classrooms currently have projectors. Also, we have a library in our department.
